4 Recipe Ideas to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15 to October 15, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month commemorates the contributions and history of Latinos. At this time of year, American citizens with Mexican, Spanish, Caribbean, and Central and South American roots celebrate their traditions!

However, this holiday hasn’t always lasted a month. Everything dates back to 1968 when Lyndon Johson was President of the United States and proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Week. In 1988, Ronald Reagan extended these celebrations.

September 15 commemorates the independence of El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Mexico observes its Independence Day on the 16th and Chile on the 18th. Also, October 12 honors Columbus Day. Hispanic Heritage Month is full of reasons to party!

Hispanic Heritage Month: Typical Activities

During this month, it's common that people go to:

  • Art exhibitions
  • Concerts
  • Parades
  • Runs

1. Flank Steak Tacos

To make tantalizing flank steak tacos, you need one pound of flank steak. Season it in hot oil with salt and pepper until it’s golden brown. Then, add red onions, garlic, and a can of La Costeña Fire Roasted Toreados. Mix and cook for five more minutes. Finally, heat the corn tortillas. You’re ready to serve delectable tacos!

2. Fire-Roasted Toreados with Shrimp Pasta

If mouthwatering pasta is your thing, you’ll love our fire-roasted toreados with shrimp pasta! It starts with one pound of peeled jumbo shrimp. First, pat the shrimp dry and season them with salt and red pepper flakes. Heat the olive oil. Add the shrimp and sauté until 90% cooked through. Set aside.

Coat the pan with more olive oil and sauté onions until translucent. Add in garlic and continue to sauté until fragrant. Now, add a can of La Costeña Fire-Roasted Toreados, tomato paste, fire-roasted tomatoes, wine, Italian seasoning, and salt. Allow everything to simmer until thickened. Finish cooking. Serve with pasta and garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!

3. Fire-Roasted Toreados Chicken Wonton Tacos

Our fire-roasted toreados chicken wonton tacos have an Asian touch! First, spray wonton shells with canola and bake them. In a bowl, mix raw chicken, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and toreados.

Add cooking oil to a skillet and saute the chicken until cooked through. In another large bowl, prepare an Asian-style slaw.

You’re ready to assemble the tacos now! Add the chicken into the wonton shells and top with more toreados, slaw, cilantro, and sesame seeds. Listo!

4. Fire-Roasted Pepper and Butternut Squash Soup

To prepare this pepper and butternut squash soup, you need a can of La Costeña Fired Roasted Sliced Peppers Toreados, chicken stock, fresh vegetables, coconut milk, and avocado oil.

Drizzle avocado on a slow cooker. Add all the other ingredients except for the pepitas and coconut milk. Toss the ingredients together. Cook for four to six hours. Then, add the coconut milk.

Blend till you get a thick, creamy texture. Serve hot and garnish with pepitas.
